Introduction:
Covid-19
Coronavirus
disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered
coronavirus.
Most
people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.
Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to
develop serious illness.
Body:
Beginning
of Covid-19
The new coronavirus was first detected in
Wuhan, China in December 2019. Tens of thousands of people were infected in
China, with the virus spreading easily from person-to-person in many parts of
that country.
Transmission
Data from published epidemiology and virology
studies provide evidence that COVID-19 is primarily transmitted from
symptomatic people to others who are in close contact through respiratory
droplets, by direct contact with infected persons, or by contact with
contaminated objects and surfaces.
Precautions
To prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based
hand rub.
- Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or
sneezing.
- Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when
you cough or sneeze.
- Stay home if you feel unwell.
- If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek
medical attention. Call in advance.
- Follow the directions of your local health authority.
Symptoms
Most common symptoms:
- fever
- dry cough
- tiredness
- Less common symptoms:
- aches and pains
- sore throat
- diarrhea
- conjunctivitis
- headache
- loss of taste or smell
- a rash on skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes
Treatment
If you feel sick you should rest, drink plenty
of fluid, and eat nutritious food. Stay in a separate room from other family
members, and use a dedicated bathroom if possible. Clean and disinfect
frequently touched surfaces.
Everyone should keep a healthy lifestyle at
home. Maintain a healthy diet, sleep, stay active, and make social contact with
loved ones through the phone or internet. Children need extra love and
attention from adults during difficult times. Keep to regular routines and
schedules as much as possible.
Effectiveness
Although for most people COVID-19 causes only
mild illness, it can make some people very ill. More rarely, the disease can be
fatal. Older people, and those with pre- existing medical conditions (such as
high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes) appear to be more vulnerable.
Conclusion:
There are hundreds of coronaviruses, most of
which circulate in animals. Only seven of these viruses infect humans and four
of them cause symptoms of the common cold. But, three times in the last 20 years,
a coronavirus has jumped from animals to humans to cause severe disease. So, be
aware of it.
